Creating A Movement Culture

By delivering PE, Sport, and health programmes that have a positive impact in school & community settings.

We have developed and adopted a range of products and services to help young people become physically active and teachers become more confident:

School Games
School Games

The Spen Valley Active Schools team will manage the School Games programme for schools in the Spen Valley area.

Priorities of the programme include Tackling Inequalities, Support for 60 Active Minutes and the development of Physical Literacy.

Active Travel

Bikeability cycle training is a practical training programme, which provides children with a valuable life skill and ultimately enables them to cycle confidently and competently on the road.

Bikeability Balance (yrs 1 & 2) and Learn to Ride (yrs 3 & 4) provide the building blocks for cycle training and increase the likelihood of a young person becoming a confident cyclist.

Baseline PE

Baseline PE aims to transform, develop and improve fundamental movement skills for all children.

After baseline testing, the technology analyses and compares fundamental movement data from thousands of young people to determine what stage a young person is at in their physical movement journey.

Relative Data is vital to ensure that interventions are differentiated, inclusive and most importantly, stage appropriate for each child. In essence, the data allows deliverers to determine the most appropriate next learning stage in order for young people to make maximum progress.

The advanced technology has a robust, user-friendly and accessible platform that is easy for schools to use and integrate into the curriculum. The assessment process of fundamental movement skills contributes directly to the development of Physical Literacy.

Active Habits 4 Health

This includes key messages on nutrition and healthy lifestyle training for young people.

The team at SVAS possess unique knowledge of the needs of schools in the Spen Valley area, having delivered PE, Sport and Health programmes there since 2006.

Spen Valley Active Schools was formed in 2024 to reflect the changing landscape, following consultations with schools and regional bodies around which elements of support are most needed. As our Social Enterprise develops we will aim to provide a robust partnership offer to maximise desired outcomes for partner schools.
